Return to the Probate Court

You must be 18 years of age or older in order to apply for appointment. You must have three separate references from Jefferson County residents who will attest to your integrity and suitability to fill the office of Notary Public. A notary public commission runs for 4 years.

You must complete the Application for Appointment as Notary Public and return in person or by mail to the office of the Judge of Probate, Jefferson County at the appropriate address. If your application is approved, you will be notified by mail and advised to file a bond in the sum of $10,000. When bond is filed, a $18.00 application fee must accompany it.
