Victim/Witness: Victims Bill of Rights
WHAT
ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LAW ENFORCEMENT
AGENCY?
Within 72 hours of the commission of certain crimes, the law enforcement
agency shall provide to the victim the following
information:
- The
availability of local emergency and crisis services.
- The
availability of possible assistance from the Alabama
Crime Victims Compensation Commission.
- The
name of the law enforcement agency and officer
handling your case and the appropriate telephone
number. If within 60 days you are not notified
of an arrest in your case, you may call the telephone
number of the law enforcement agency for the status
of the case.
- The
procedural steps involved in a criminal prosecution.
- The
rights of crime victims as authorized by the Alabama
Constitution and how to invoke those rights.
- The
existence and eligibility requirements of restitution
and compensation.
- What
to do if you are threatened or intimidated.
- The
name and telephone number of the District Attorney's
Office to contact for further information.
