Welcome to the JeffCo InTouch Express Lane, the easy and convenient way for Jefferson County residents to renew their Alabama motor vehicle registration. You can complete your renewal in a few simple steps. Be sure to have the following ready before you begin:
     
  • The renewal reminder notice you received in the mail for your renewal month. Your renewal can only be renewed in or after your renewal month. If you did not receive a renewal reminder, call the Jefferson County Revenue Department at the **numbers listed below ** or email us at the address below with the tag number or vehicle identification number (VIN) of the vehicle and we will mail you a billing letter. We cannot give out record numbers over the phone as the information shown during the process of renewal is protected by the Driver's Privacy Protection Act.

  • A valid Visa or MasterCard credit card.  We also accept electronic checks.  If you choose this option, you will need to provide your bank routing number and your account number, as well as your mailing address.  We accept payments from personal checking, personal savings or corporate checking accounts.

  • Driver's License or non-driver identification number, issued by the State of Alabama Department of Public Safety or a Federal Employer Identification number (FEIN) for commercially owned vehicles.

    Important Notice to Pickup Truck Owners

    Notice to Credit Card and E-Check users:

    Effective August 1, 2006 convenience fees will be assessed at the rates listed below by the credit card/E-check service provider. The convenience fee will appear on your monthly statement and not on the motor vehicle/boat registration receipt*.

    * The two dollar ($2) mail fee per metal plate and/or registration decal is a separate charge and will appear on the motor vehicle/boat registration receipt.
    ** Transaction is defined as any combination of motor vehicle registration renewals not in excess of $500. For example, if the total amount for a single or multiple motor vehicle registration renewal is more than $500 and less than $1,000, the credit card/E-check service provider calculates this as two (2) transactions. If the fee is between $1,000 and $1,500, this is considered three (3) transactions.

    Express Lane allows you to renew and pay for up to ten(10) registration renewals with a single credit card transaction. You will need to have tag and record numbers for each vehicle ready before you begin. If you experience any technical problems using this service or have any comments, you can e-mail technical support.

    If your property address has changed and you have not updated your vehicle registration file to reflect your new Jefferson County address, you can submit a change of address by clicking here.

    A fee of $2.00 will be added to each registration renewal. This is the same amount charged for mail-in renewals. Your tag/decal will be mailed to the address shown on your renewal reminder within 5 working days.
